The Big Decision

Should I quit my job and go cruising? 3 more women respond

143_16-150x150

3 more responses to Judy’s question: My husband and I are thinking of living aboard a sailboat in 4 to 5 years from now. His daughter is grown and just purchased her first home while my daughter is a freshmen in high school. I suppose it is harder for me to take to the idea of living aboard because I have a really great paying job and I feel I need to help my daughter with college. I am only 39 so leaving my career is harder than I thought it would be. Any advice for me? [...]

Take Your Passion Cruising

Kathy Parsons’ mission: learn the language (and teach it to cruisers)

kathy-parsons-passion-1-thumb

My big passion as I have cruised has been exploring language and culture. I have always loved getting to know other cultures: it is what drew me to the Peace Corps in the 1970s and part of what drew me to cruising almost 15 years later.

Cruising provides a perfect pace for getting to know [...]

TIPS

3 Tips for flying back and forth from the boat

kathy-parsons-scale

I’ve just made the “shlep” again – I flew to the US for Christmas to visit family and just flew back to the boat in the Bahamas yesterday loaded down with boat parts. Over time, I’ve found three little things that help.

1. Luggage Scale

Happy Holidays!

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and we cruisers are getting in the spirit of the season. This year we have been enjoying the Christmas season in the Abacos.

We attended the 11th annual Lighting of the Tree on Green Turtle Cay. The Christmas carols were the best part. Choirs from each of the island’s five [...]

What We Discussed at the Women and Cruising Seminar

We had a great time at the Women and Cruising Seminar Sunday October 11, 2009 at the Annapolis Boat Show. For the first time ever, Beth Leonard, circumnavigator and author of the Voyager’s Handbook joined us. And Pam Wall and I LOVED having her – she was a great member of the Women [...]

Come by the Author’s Corner and meet Jimmy Cornell – Annapolis Sailboat Show 2009

While you’re at the 2009 Annapolis Sailboat Show, be sure to stop by the Author’s Corner (Booth M5) and talk cruising.

Another reason that I love the Annapolis Boat Show is that I get to hang out with two of my favorite cruising authors, Jimmy Cornell and John Otterbacher (author of Sailing Grace).
